Welcoming Cordis Auckland's Pinnacle Tower

Pinnacle Tower at Cordis Auckland

It’s here! Cordis Auckland’s Pinnacle Tower is perhaps the most anticipated hotel launch of 2021 and I can see why. It’s no secret that Cordis is one of of my most favourite hotels in the city, having stayed there throughout its many iterations from The Langham to its smooth transition to Cordis a couple of years ago. It was the first ever hotel I staycationed at back in 2013 and have been the benchmark for what a good hotel experience is. The new Pinnacle Tower has everything I love about Cordis and hotels — a club lounge to relax in, sweeping views of the city, and the unique brand of Cordis hospitality from the moment you walk in greeted by Kevin (an Auckland icon himself).

I’ve always loved that they are conveniently located on Symonds St — close enough to the shops and Karangahape Rd if I want to go out for dinner (although with different dining options in the hotel, I very rarely leave once I check in) but not in the middle of the city where traffic is trickier to navigate. The new 17-storey tower houses 244 premium rooms and signature Cordis Pinnacle Tower suites. This addition brings the total number of rooms to 640, making Cordis Auckland the largest hotel in terms of room count in New Zealand.

Designed by acclaimed New Zealand architects Jasmax, the interiors are sleek and streamlined and luxurious yet minimalist, with contemporary finishes. Home to the largest curated locally commissioned art collection, art curators Coupland Cormack have curated a collection of 46 innovative commissions, spanning across multiple mediums that have been created by nine of Aotearoa’s most prominent contemporary artists.

I had a little sneak peek of the new Pinnacle Tower and fell in love with the Chairman Suite at the top floor with a bathtub fit for royalty and features that take a hotel experience to the next level. The new Cordis Club Lounge on the 14th floor is also a level-up from the original one back in the 10th floor. I always book a club room when I stay because I love hanging out in the club lounge. I’ve spent many evenings in there writing and enjoying the treats (late night ice cream, anyone?) so I can’t wait to give this one a try.
